Comenius Meetings

– Cyprus Meeting-Synopsis

COMENIUS MEETING IN CYPRUS (OCTOBER 2012): SYNOPSIS

Questionnaire:

The questionnaire is in order to determine the degree of awareness that students have regarding Internet Safety generally speaking.

We have changed the agenda a little and it is Germany that is writing the questionnaire, but as opposed to having Greece analyze the data, the school from Slovenia will now do.
Therefore, the timetable for the questionnaire is that by the end of November Germany should have it ready to send to all partner schools.

The questionnaires answers will be collected and sent to Slovenia (Deni Plesnik) for analysis. The results of the questionnaire will be presented during the meeting in January.

Cyber bullying:

1. With regard to our first topic, we discussed and decided that each school will create 3 posters regarding Cyber bullying. At the next project meeting, there will be a contest to decide the winning poster(s) that we will use in our school and respective local communities.

2. We discussed the creation of a leaflet (in reality it should be called a pamphlet) which will be geared to students, teachers and parents regarding the above-mentioned topic. The pamphlet will be a guide for all in: a) how can we identify cyber-bullying; b) what can be done in the case of this (if it us or someone we know or our own child); and c) prevention of cyber-bullying (settings on Social Media websites; a degree of control by parents over what they allow their children to do on the Internet etc).

This pamphlet should be an A4 paper folded. (The more I think about it, the more I think we will need to keep it as one pamphlet for all (students, parents, and teachers).  This also needs to be done by the next meeting and ideas and progress of this pamphlet should be exchanged between schools.

Website:

A brief presentation of the website for the project was made. We will add photos from the 1st meeting in next few days as well as school profiles. I will reiterate again: if anyone needs an email for the project, it can be provided from the website (ex: nick@studentsonlinesafety.com).

You should encourage your students to check out the website and somehow to use it to contact their partners from other schools either thru blog or chat. The chat room will be password protected and ONLY students involved in the project will be able to access it.

From the discussion on the website, a discussion between the partner schools ensued on what methods of communication should be used between teachers. Deni Plesnik is recommending a platform called Moodle. Germany has voted in favour of using e-twinning. The rest of us are unsure/unfamiliar with both so have no real say on the matter – however we did promise to look into both and make a decision.

Project meetings:

We have decided that the next meeting is in Zaragoza, Spain and will take place from January 9th -11th, 2013. It was further decided that we will take between 3-5 students from each school. During this meeting in Spain, we will discuss/finalize pamphlets and posters as well as the results of the questionnaire. Also, each school will be expected to give a 5 minute presentation of their respective schools/cities/countries. There was also a suggestion that teachers from the respective partner schools could perhaps teach one lesson to their counterpart Spanish students. Fernando was to discuss this with his Headmistress and inform us – although I feel some of us may not want to actually pursue this (therefore it will be up to the school in Spain and any teacher who may like to have this opportunity).

Finally, it was decided that the following project meetings are as follows:

Slovenia March 5th-7th, 2013
Poland: April 9th-11th, 2013
